Abstract

Heavy metal contamination in soil represents a significant global environmental issue, affecting human health, soil quality, and biodiversity. Local plant species such as Typha latifolia and Phragmites sp. have potential for rehabilitating contaminated land through phytoextraction mechanisms; however, understanding their effectiveness and influencing factors remains limited. There is no remediation approach that is fully effective, sustainable, and considers the integration of social aspects, ecological conditions, and the characteristics of local species. This study employed a descriptive qualitative approach using in-depth interviews and observations of five groups of informants to explore the impact of local plants on heavy metal-contaminated soil recovery. The results indicate that local species can reduce heavy metal concentrations in soil, improve soil physical quality, and that recovery effectiveness is influenced by environmental conditions and community support. These findings provide theoretical and practical implications for contaminated land rehabilitation, offering a sustainable ecological solution applicable to environmental management.
