Climate change and environmental degradation represent global challenges that affect various aspects of human life. Increasing environmental awareness encourages individuals to engage in pro-environmental behaviors; however, eco-anxiety also influences the motivation and behavior of community members. Previous studies have not thoroughly analyzed pro-environmental motivation in local communities while considering the dimension of eco-anxiety. This study employed a qualitative approach using semi-structured interviews with five informants, including community leaders, waste bank managers, local environmental activists, program-participating residents, and environmental educators. The findings indicate that pro-environmental motivation is influenced by a combination of environmental awareness, managed eco-anxiety, and social support, whereas excessive anxiety may lead to passive behaviors. These results contribute theoretically by expanding the understanding of the relationship between environmental awareness, eco-anxiety, and pro-environmental behavior, while also providing practical guidance for designing community programs and environmental policies to enhance effective and sustainable public participation.
