Masjid sebagai Agen Promosi Kesehatan: dampak edukasi terhadap kebersihan dan kesehatan mental jamaah

Religious institutions have significant potential in supporting public health promotion due to the high level of social trust within communities. Mosques, as centers of religious and social activities, play a strategic role not only as places of worship but also as educational platforms that integrate spiritual values with healthy lifestyle practices. However, previous studies have highlighted research gaps, including the lack of standardized implementation, limited long-term evaluations, and insufficient attention to the mental health aspects of congregants in mosque-based interventions. This study employed a qualitative approach with a phenomenological design through in-depth interviews involving five groups of informants, namely mosque administrators, preachers, health workers, adult/elderly congregants, and mosque youth, to explore perceptions and the impact of health education programs conducted in mosques. The findings confirmed that mosques can function as effective agents of health promotion by improving hygiene-related behaviors and strengthening mental health awareness among congregants through the integration of Islamic values, although limitations in facilities and program sustainability remain challenges. These results imply the need for stronger collaboration between mosques and formal health services, the development of theory-based intervention models, and longitudinal evaluations to optimize and sustain the role of mosques as community health promotion centers.
