Korupsi dan Kesehatan Masyarakat: Dampaknya terhadap Akses Sanitasi di Daerah Terpencil

Corruption is a global phenomenon that affects the public sector and infrastructure development, including the provision of sanitation services. In remote areas, corruption in the management of sanitation projects hinders community access to adequate sanitation facilities and directly impacts public health. This study was conducted because limited research has explored the direct experiences of communities receiving sanitation services regarding how corruption affects access and service quality. A qualitative approach was employed, using in-depth interviews with five categories of informants: village residents, village heads, public health officers, environmental NGO activists, and regional parliament members. The findings reveal that corruption influences all stages of sanitation program implementation, from planning and procurement to facility maintenance, and contributes to increased risks of infectious diseases, limited access to clean water, and environmental facility degradation. The study provides important implications for policy development and sanitation interventions, highlighting the need for strict monitoring mechanisms, community participation, and sustainability-based planning to improve the effectiveness of sanitation programs and public health outcomes in remote areas.
